Job title: General Practice Nurse Trainee
Salary: £24214.00 (per year)
Location: Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Various Locations
Town / City: Cardiff and The Vale of Glamorgan
Postcode: CF14 4TT

Agenda for change pay band: 5 - £24,214 to £30,112 per annum

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM FOR 12 MONTHS DUE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE

The GPN Trainee scheme provides an opportunity for registered Nurses to gain employment with Cardiff and Vale UHB for a period of 12 months where they will be supported to learn and develop the skills required for a career in General Practice.

At the end of the 12 month period, nurses will be able to fulfil the core duties and responsibilities of a General Practice Nurse and they will be supported to take up employment within a practice in Cardiff and Vale at the end of the scheme. The scheme is available to any registered nurse who is seeking a career as a General Practice Nurse. The scheme aims to facilitate General Practice Nursing as a first career choice, post qualification/registration.

The scheme would ideally suit nurses who have never worked in Primary Care/General Practice, and who have been unable to gain employment in this field as they lack the relevant and necessary experience often requested by General Practice.

The design of the scheme means nurses will be placed within a designated practice to train alongside current/existing nursing staff who will mentor and support development as a condition of employment. In addition there will have access to a Lead Nurse Mentor from within the Primary, Community & Intermediate Care Clinical Board (PCIC) who will work with you and the practice in which you are placed to ensure you have a great experience. It is hoped that the placement will lead to more permanent employment and every effort will be made to secure this.

GP placement practices will be in Cardiff and Vale areas. The ability to travel between sites in a timely manner is essential. Part-time opportunities will be considered.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Closing date: 23rd May 2019
