General Practitioners to Support Transgender Services in Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan

2 Sessions Per Week

Salary £98,515  pro rata, per annum

Following on from developments across Wales, Cardiff and Vale UHB is seeking expressions of interest from  GPs looking to be part of a new transgender team delivering services for the local population.  This is a fantastic opportunity for career and professional development in a portfolio role. Cardiff & Vale currently operates a local service linked to the London Gender Identity Clinic (GIC), this role will support the expansion of this service model.

Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a License to Practice. You must also be on the GMC GP Register and have gained entry on the Welsh GP Performers List before taking up post.

The Local Gender Teams are primarily a prescribing function, overseeing the initiation and optimisation of hormone treatments for patients discharged from the Welsh Gender Team before their prescribing is transferred to their registered GP practice based on the model currently being provided by Dr Sophie Quinney from Meddygfa Canna Surgery. The post holder will also liaise with Speech & Language Therapy (SLT) and Psychology to deliver holistic care for Trans patients close to their home.

Opportunities available will be to work 2 sessions per week as an independent contractor but enrolled on Cardiff and Vale UHB payroll for HMRC purposes commencing on 1st April 2019.  (See attached Job Description and Person Specification)

If required, relocation of the service to the base of the successful applicant will be considered, reimbursement of room and administration time will be at UHB agreed rate.

The event will take place at the Birt Acres Lecture Theatre, Bute Building, Cardiff University, CF10 3NB on Friday 8th February 2019 from 9.30 am to 1pm.

There is also an afternoon CPD session for all GPs, which offers further detailed presentations from the Lead Psychiatrist and Endocrinologist from the Tavistock and Portman GIC in London.
