A free, confidential counselling services for all NHS Wales health professionals and students. HHP cannot provide legal advice, an advocacy service or represent doctors at tribunals or GMC hearings. It is not an emergency service.

BMA Doctor Support Service

The Doctor Support Service offers emotional support from another doctor who is experienced in providing peer support, and is completely independent from the GMC. It is free and available for all doctors and is completely confidential. If your case ends up at a hearing, you can ask someone from the service to go with you for up to two days of the hearing. It provides support for doctors going through fitness to practice procedures with the GMC, or at risk of having their licence withdrawn.

BMA wellbeing services

The BMA’s wellbeing services include a range of free and confidential services and information to help support doctors and medical students:

  • Confidential 24/7 counselling line, and Peer support service for all doctors and medical students on 0330 123 1245
  • BMA members, plus their partners and dependents, can also access a free structured course of up to six sessions of therapy with a counsellor
  • A UK wellbeing support directory detailing various support services by geographical availability on their sources of support page

DocHealth – Psychotherapy for doctors

Confidential, face-to-face or remote video psychotherapeutic consultation service for doctors via self-referral. Fees are based on a sliding scale relating to your grade and circumstances. Provided in partnership by the BMA and RMBF. Self-referring doctors can access up to six face to face sessions with the service and further care can be advised.
